Men spend three-and-a-half years in sheds

IT'S official - men are wed to their sheds. Research shows that men aged between 30 and 76 will spend three-and-a-half years tinkering in their shed or garage.

In the poll of 2000 men, about 40 per cent say they claim to be doing DIY projects but are just relaxing or having a cigarette on the sly.

And about a third of those surveyed say that the shed is the only place they can go to unwind.

DIY forum www.cosyhomesonline.com spokeswoman Sylvia Marshall of the group behind the survey said: “The findings show how obsessed men are with their sheds – often using them to escape the pressures of work or family life.

“Like a woman’s handbag – a shed is full of personal things which no one else should touch.”
