Wide Span Industrial Supplies a Building for Prayer in the Solomons

Written on the 28th of May 2010 by Stacy Weber

Wide Span Industrial has supplied the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Solomon Islands with a large prefabricated cold form building as a meeting point for their congregation in the South Pacific.

President of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Pastor Andrew Kingston, approached Wide Span Industrial and asked their industrial sales specialist Manuel Delgado to design a building that would comfortably accommodate the large group of parishioners.

“The Seventh-day Adventist Church was looking for a company that could supply them with what they wanted for the best value for money. Wide Span Industrial was able to give them precisely that. We designed a large structure of about 50m x 84 metres, with a main span and two (2) lean-tos.

“We worked closely with the church’s Australian committee and with various Australian builders to find a solution that suited their exact requirements. Once the project was given the go ahead, we manufactured and supplied the prefabricated building kit to them,” said Mr. Delgado.

The nominated Australian builder then flew over to the Solomon Islands and trained the locals, who he then employed as part of his labour force to erect the entire building.

“As the locals were involved, there was a great sense of local pride and they all took ownership of the project,” explained Mr. Delgado.

Both Pr. Kingston and Mr. Delgado agree that the project was a huge success and the Seventh-Day Adventist Church ordered another five smaller outer buildings from Wide Span Industrial.

“It was a very interesting journey as these buildings were erected – especially the big one! It is 10 times as hard to erect something like this out here [Solomon Islands]! Anyway it’s now up and being used – everyone is so proud!” Pr Kingston said.
