A seaside shed at Scarborough

04/02/23

All across Australia, local sports clubs are often the lifeblood that help bind communities together, offering members a healthy lifestyle combined with a community to pursue similar interests with.

The Scarborough Outrigger Canoe Club is a prime example of such a club. Based in beautiful Moreton Bay in Queensland, the club were recently in pursuit of a large shed to house their canoes and gear along with being a prime hangout spot after training. Wide Span Sheds were happy to offer a helping hand.

The words are from Sharlene, a key member of the Scarborough Outrigger Canoe Club, as she reflects on the sport she loves.

"It's very therapeutic," she continues. "I find that outrigger canoeing is something that you can go out on the water, you can forget your worries. You can relax. You can test yourself and I find it is a really good team sport."

Her enjoyment of outrigger canoeing is apparent as she speaks to us outside of the club's newly built Wide Span Shed.

After receiving funding to build a steel building to house their canoes and gear,

the journey began to find a shed that would suit their needs and requirements.

"None of us were shed builders. We knew we needed to have a shed, but we didn't know what was involved in that." Sharlene explained as she reminisced on the buying process.

One of the reasons why Wide Span Sheds appealed to the club was their conversation with a shed design specialist who was able to layout a few different options for the club to choose from.

The club's relationship with their dedicated Wide Span Sheds' specialist grew to the point where he became "our best buddy" according to Sharlene.

The key aspect of their journey to buy and build a shed was that their dedicated specialist was with them every step of the way.

When we asked if Sharlene had any advice to other sport and community clubs who were after a steel building, this was her response:

"What I would recommend to other clubs is to go to Wide Span Sheds. Wide Span Sheds, from start to finish, can offer ground advice on how to start, what you need at the beginning and what you need to finish right at the end".
