Choosing the Right Pitch for Your Shed Roof

24/09/24

When designing your shed, an important factor to keep in mind is the roof pitch. The pitch not only shapes the shed's appearance but also affects the amount of interior space and functionality. Here’s an overview of the roof pitches offered by Wide Span, along with key considerations to help you choose the right option for your design.

Things to consider when choosing a roof pitch

If you’re planning to install solar panels, it’s important to choose the optimal roof pitch for maximum efficiency. The best pitch will depend on your shed’s location and sun exposure. Consult with a solar specialist to ensure you select the right pitch for your needs.

Certain roof pitches may require extra safety measures during installation or maintenance. Be sure to consult with your builder to confirm they can accommodate this and discuss any potential cost implications.

10° Gable roofs are the go-to choice for many sheds due to their balance of simplicity, functionality and cost efficiency.

15° pitch

A 15° Gable roof represents an excellent midpoint between low and steep pitches. This steeper pitch is ideal for sheds that need to accommodate taller vehicles or equipment, such as caravans, as it provides ample interior height.

22.5° pitch

A 22.5° gable roof offers a more pronounced roofline, making it ideal for matching the roof profiles of existing buildings on the property. This design is frequently chosen for liveable sheds and is commonly used for the central roof pitch in American barns.

30° pitch

A 30° gable roof is for those wanting a striking, architectural look. Its high roofline is ideal for matching the style of existing buildings and helps the shed blend seamlessly, making it feel less like a typical shed.

06° pitch

This is the go-to pitch for skillion sheds. Wide Span Sheds offers a 6-degree roof pitch, surpassing the 5-degree minimum standard for corrugated metal roofing set by the National Construction Code.  In cases of roof deflection under load, the 6-degree pitch prevents the angle from dropping below the required threshold, ensuring continued compliance. This small tolerance works in our favour to ensure conformity with sheeting codes and specifications.

10° pitch

The 10° skillion roof offers a sleek, modern design. While it may provide some additional interior height, its primary appeal lies in its contemporary style, making it a popular choice for those looking to achieve a modern look. (See an example of this roof pitch on the left side of this shed).
